Broadlands first started offering rides to disabled children in 1955 and provides over 900 rides per year. Based at some wonderful facilities in Medstead near Alton, Broadlands provides riding lessons to both mentally and physically disabled adults and children. In addition to disabled adults and children from the local area, pupils from Shepherds Down School in Compton and Treloars School ride there regularly.
Nigel Hoppitt, from Broadlands, said: "We will benefit from customers using their free Community Card each time they shop, there is no sign up or cost for the customer – just a benefit for Broadlands.
"The most we can receive is £15,000, enough to keep 3 ponies for a year! The Coop is unique in its drive to help in the local community in a friendly and supportive way. We are excited about the opportunity to work with the Coop, the staff from Alresford and interact with their local customer base."
Alresford MP Steve Brine was delighted to be asked to attend the launch, where he met a number of staff, helpers and even two ponies. He said: "The Co-Op Community Card is once again proving its value and I know it will deliver some major support for Broadlands during this period. I know a little of the charity and hear only good things about the fantastic experiences it gives to local families."
Steve was also thrilled to hear that Abe Astur, a little boy from Winchester who Steve helped, and was successfully treated in America, also rides with Broadlands.
Steve continued: "It was a pleasure to meet some of the team and support the launch of this latest fundraising initiative."
