It was reported over the weekend that Hampshire Constabulary needs to save up to £70m over the next four years, which could lead to the loss of up to 1400 jobs.
Chief Constable Alex Marshall had said the uncertainly was ‘unsettling’ and there is a ‘human story and personal consequence every time someone leaves’.
Steve Brine said: “This is deeply troubling news. I know the constituency I represent has low levels of crime if compared to many others in Hampshire, let alone further afield, but the fear of crime and low level anti-social behaviour worries many elderly and vulnerable people and I never lose sight of that.
"I fear this will not be the last impact of the coalition Government's dire economic inheritance to feed down to our part of the world.
"I will be meeting Ministers as soon as possible after the spending review on October 20 and am seeking urgent meetings with the police locally to ensure they are well aware of the policing needs we have in Winchester."
