Thirty seven Year 6 children from Harestock Primary School had truly unique and wonderful experience when they travelled to London on Wednesday 31st January.
The first landmark they visited was Wellington Barracks – home to the Foot Guards Bands. Here they had the opportunity to watch the Coldstream Guards Band rehearse, visit the Guards Chapel and the Museum. Later this was followed by quick visits to the Cavalry Museum and the National Gallery.
The final destination for the visit was a trip the Houses of Parliament, where they met up with local MP Steve Brine. Education guides gave the children a grand tour and an outline of some of the history of this iconic building. Children were also provided with opportunities to sit in the public gallery of both the House of Commons and the House of Lords – this they found truly fascinating.
Ella and Olivia said: "All of the Year 6 classes thoroughly enjoyed seeing the House of Commons and the House of Lords. It was a once in a lifetime experience for us, and we would love to go again."
Once the tour was complete it was then back to the education centre for a workshop on "Laws and Debating", before thoroughly enjoying a question and answer session with Steve Brine MP.
Steve said: "I am so glad the group had such a fantastic day, and I really enjoyed the Q&A session we held after their tour and workshop."
