Steve Brine has warmly welcomed news that a £3.5m package has been allocated to protect the most vulnerable people in society from nuisance and scam calls.
The Chancellor, George Osborne, announced the money in the Budget on Wednesday 18th March, with the money now allocated to look at ways to help the elderly and most vulnerable, including trialling new technology designed to block certain call, and launching a campaign to raise public awareness of how to deal with, and report, nuisance calls.
Steve Brine said: "This is further good news for what has been a long-running piece of work for me in Parliament. I am key member of the All Party Group which looks at this issue, and it is fair to say that it is not simple! We had some great news earlier this year with the introduction of huge fines for businesses, and their leaders, who continue to plague people with these calls, and this is further good news.
"All that said, there is still much to be done, not least working out how we can tackle calls generated not just within the EU, but also outside it, which is a far more complex nut to crack. If I am re-elected, I'll be taking up my position in the All-Party group once more to carry on my work."
