MP Steve Brine is to chair a public meeting on 21st July as a proposal to install a safety crossing on St Cross Rd is considered by the county council.
Taking place at 7pm at St Faith's School, Steve will broker talks between Hampshire transport officers and local residents, many of whom have long been concerned about the junction between St Cross Rd, one of the busiest commuter roads in the city, and Stanmore Lane.
Steve said: "This first came to my attention through a local Resident Survey I carried out as a Parliamentary Candidate way back in 2007, and is something I have kept close to since. I am delighted that I have been asked to chair this meeting, and will be continuing to work with the good people of St Cross as this plays out."
Residents say the estimated £100,000 cost is justified as the junction is within minutes of a number of local schools, and there have been four serious accidents, including fatalities, there is the past three years.
The local campaign organiser added: "This issue has been going on for many, many years. I am pleased that we are all getting round a table, and am clear that a crossing really would be a proper, long-term solution."
