Winchester MP Steve Brine recently chaired a big meeting in the city to consider the controversial Pitt Manor development as councillors prepare to consider the full planning application.

The scheme, which will see 200 homes and a new park-and-ride site built just off the Romsey Road, was given outline permission on appeal in 2012 after fierce campaigning locally which initially saw Winchester City Council reject the plans.

Mr Brine brought together representatives from Turley Associates, developer Orchard Homes and St Peter's School as well as senior officers from Winchester City and Hampshire County Council to consider many outstanding issues, including changes to the Stanmore Lane/Romsey Road junction. Local resident Sandie Vining also attended as did well-known local architect Huw Thomas who is working on the project.

Issues considered included safe routes into and out of St Peter's School and the proposed new access from Romsey Road, water management issues on the new site including drainage and any possible knock-on implications for the nearby village of Pitt and management of the park-and-ride facility. Pedestrian and cycle access to the new development was also discussed and those attending saw a number of drawings of what the new homes will look like.

Steve says; "The meeting held back in the Summer was useful in drawing out much more of the detail and giving residents, and those of us who represent them, the chance to question many aspects of what will be a major development in this part of Winchester.

"It is no secret many of us didn't want this area developed but now the decision has been made we have to make the best of it and ensure we mitigate the negative effects as much as possible and glean as much benefit as we can for the local community from the positives. I hope those attending found it useful to meet again and it allowed various connections to be made which can be followed through as the development starts being built."

The MP chaired a similar meeting in August 2013 (pictured) which resulted in the full application being delayed while with residents' concerns were addressed.

The full planning application, known as 'Reserved Matters', will be heard by Winchester City Council's planning committee on 6th March. The agenda with report and recommended conditions is available here.
