The Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP raised the growing problem of online sales of legal highs, and said that the UK was fast becoming a 'hub' for abuse of substances in Europe.
The question came as the Southern Daily Echo has begun a campaign following a series of deaths across Hampshire, including Doug Ferguson, a trainee doctor from Chandler's Ford, who died back in 2012.
Speaking for the Home Office, Norman Baker MP said the government are taking the issue of online sales seriously, and that the National Crime Agency is undertaking operational activity accordingly.
In addition, he said that the drug AMT is presently legal but as a result of the case in Chandler's Ford he asked officials on Friday to take action under the Drugs Early Warning System.
