Steve Brine, MP for Winchester and Chandlers Ford, and Chair of the Health and Social Care Committee visited Chandlers Ford care home, run by HC-One, in Eastleigh, to mark this year’s Care Home Open Week celebrations from 26th June to 2nd July 2023.
Steve Brine was given a tour of the home and met Residents and Colleagues who enjoyed meeting him and telling him about what life is like at Chandlers Ford Care Home, and about the activities the home was running to celebrate Care Home Open Week.
Care Home Open Week is a national event hosted by Championing Social Care, designed to connect care homes with their local communities. Chandlers Ford’s chosen theme for this year’s Care Home Open Week was ‘Celebrating Together’. Throughout the week, Residents, Colleagues, families and friends enjoyed a variety of fun-filled activities which were enjoyed by all.
Steve also had the opportunity to speak to Kirsten Scott who was visiting Chandlers Ford care home from the Prince’s Trust and told Steve more about the charity’s latest work.
Jim Bowie, Manager at Chandlers Ford, remarked: “It was great to be able to open our home to the community during Care Home Open week and wonderful to have Steve and Kirsten popping in for a chat with our Residents and the team, along with our fellow HC-One Colleagues Liz Richards, Director of Nursing, and Becca Porteous, Senior Quality Improvement Manager.”
“It’s always a joy to host guests and entertainers in our home. It creates a very uplifting environment for our Residents and it’s lovely to see everyone interacting and taking in the moment.”
Steve Brine, MP for Winchester and Chair of the Health and Social Care Committee, said : “The NHS may be marking 75 years old this week but it falls down with the care system, so it was really important, in Care Home Week, to visit and hear about the workforce pipeline and the current issues facing the sector.”
