Steve Brine has welcomed news that Hampshire County Council is already consulting on enlarging Winnall Primary School, as part of the wider plan to increase badly-needed school capacity.
The Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP has led calls for much needed new primary school places in Winchester. To the relief of families across the city, earlier this summer council chiefs responded with a £10m plan, to include a new two-form entry school on the Rotherley site in the heart of the city, which will bring 420 new primary places online by September 2014.
As part of this process, it has been proposed to enlarge Winnall Primary School, in the east of the city, from 140 to 210 places, and in order to do this Hampshire County Council must engage in a formal consultation, which will run until 16th October.
Steve Brine said: "This is good news and it is great to see things are getting moving. Make no mistake, this is still THE schoolgate issue across the city, and I am sure local parents and parents-to-be will be pleased to see forward progress."
