Staff from each of the organisations will be on hand at St Michael’s Covert (next to Debenhams) on Monday 6th October, and for the rest of week at a Market Stall in Upper Brook Street, to help anyone with questions about claiming benefits. Representative from the Pensions Service and Scottish Southern will also be there to give advice regarding pensions and how residents can save on their energy bills.
In the current economic climate, the City Council is taking action to ensure that residents are fully aware of the help and benefits that they are entitled to. As such, Benefits staff from the council will be on hand at the sessions to help residents understand and calculate what benefits they may be able to claim. The advice sessions are timed to coincide with National Advice Week which is organised by Citizens Advice.
Prospective Winchester MP, Steve Brine said; "Advice Week 2008, which runs from 6-10 October, provides the perfect opportunity to raise awareness amongst Winchester people of the services available to them from the CAB and the support offered by WCC. I recently attended the launch of CAB Hampshire at Winchester Guildhall and we are very lucky to have such an active and professional service in the city - backed up by the City Council."
