A group of adult leaders, parents, scouts, cubs and beavers had successfully completed the two-day fundraising challenge, pulling an old fashioned scout trek cart from Brownsea Island back to their home town.
Steve Brine said: "The long haul was a massive effort and a major achievement. Of course it was to raise money for the new scout hut, and it's done that although there's a long way to go, but it was reflective of everything the scouts are about.
"As someone who very much grew up within the scouting movement I will always support their work locally and do whatever I can to improve facilities and open up the many opportunities scouting offers young people to all who want it."
Dave Kesby, one of the organisers of the event, said "This has been an adventure and a brilliant fundraiser. We have raised £5000 so far, with more to come. We've used the spirit of scouting to inspire ourselves to do something extraordinary. It's simply amazing".
1st Winchester Scouts have already raised £160,000 towards the cost of creating a refurbished scout hut in Weeke which will also be a community facility and a pre-school.
