Steve Brine highlighted the Don’t Motor On Meds campaign in Parliament as he took part in a debate on dangerous driving on Monday 8th July.
The Winchester & Chandler’s Ford MP was speaking in a Westminster Hall debate, inspired by the Petitions Committee, and told colleagues that the campaign focussed on the role that prescription medication can have in dangerous driving.
He recognised that changes must be made to sentencing guidelines, but also emphasised the role that business can play and big pharmaceutical firms in particular.
He said: “The pharma industry could act quickly – now – to label medication much more clearly as “not safe to drive with”. Many of the charities are very good at doing that, but many pharmaceutical companies bury it in the small print.
“We should be as much about prevention, as well as the right punishment when tragic events happen.”
