Founded in 1982, the Registered Charity provides bereavement support to anyone over the age of 18 living in Winchester and the surrounding area, via a team of volunteer Bereavement Visitors. Volunteers are trained listeners who visit bereaved clients in their own homes.
Chairman Chelsea Duke said: "We have 25-30 active Bereavement Visitors at any one time, plus six volunteer Supervisors. Supervisors are trained counsellors and group Supervision is provided for the Visitors to ensure that they are as safe and cared for as our clients. We make no charge for our services, and all Committee members, Visitors and Supervisors are volunteers."
Steve Brine said: "I was delighted to meet the volunteers at Winchester Bereavement Support. This was an inspiring visit, and I know just how dedicated everyone is to this very special work for our community.
Chelsea Duke added: "We pride ourselves on the fact that we are able to respond very quickly, and a Visitor is often able to contact a new client within a day or two of the client first contacting us for help.
"As a small charity, we are totally dependent on donations and fundraising, and we would be delighted to hear from local people who wished to find out more about us."
