A recent visit by Steve Brine MP to South Wonston Primary School was not only informative but thoroughly enjoyed by the children and staff. Euan Lippett, Charlie Sale, Katie Millar and Caitlin Wesley gave Mr Brine a guided tour of the school before he faced a 'Question Time' style audience of Y5 and 6 children.
The children were keen to find out about what had led Mr Brine into politics, what the most challenging and rewarding aspects of his job are and about his aspirations are for the future. With the forthcoming Olympics in mind the school has been using the Olympic values to focus on 'Going for Goals' to learn about people who have achieved their ambitions through determination and hard work.
Jane Bundy, Headteacher, said: "The children learnt a tremendous amount from Steve's visit including that he is an example of someone who though determination and hard work has achieved his goal of becoming an MP."
Steve added:"I had a great time at South Wonston, and would like to thank Euan, Charlie, Katie and Caitlin for my tour of their school. There is such a lovely atmosphere, and Jane's leads a team which really does the school credit.
"I always find Question Time with the young people every bit as challenging as the real thing and this time was no different. There were some really excellent questions at South Wonston including whether I have a dog called Popcorn (I do), and whether I could install a shop in Worthy Down (maybe!). I really hope they enjoyed the opportunity to find out more about my job as much as I enjoyed seeing this lovely village school."
