Steve Brine dropped into Harestock Primary School on Friday to discuss service families as the school took part in a special torch relay.
The Harestock MP was also joined by Winchester's fantastic new Mayor Frank Pearson and the Lady Mayoress, Ann, at the completion of the mini-Olympic Torch Relay, with children from nearby Weeke Primary School delivering the torch to a packed sports field.
Prior to the arrival of the torch, Steve had time to discuss with staff the new displays in the school hall, and some of the initiatives the team have been running in conjunction with the MOD.
Steve said: "Harestock Primary is a wonderful school, and extremely well-led by Mrs Jackie Sankey. While the rain in the morning forced a few changes to the event, there was absolutely nothing to dampen the spirits of children and staff alike, and it was very exciting to take in the atmosphere as Weeke delivered the mini-Olympic torch onto the crowded field.
"It was also a great chance to discuss issues such as Reading Force and the transition between schools (and very often countries) that service families have to go through.
"I was also extremely impressed by the 'Where in the world is your Mum or Dad' map in the assembly hall, which I can see really helps not only in educational terms, but also in giving children the chance to talk openly about the subject."
