Wren from Twyford School, has won Steve Brine's final annual Christmas Card competition.
The Year 1 pupil follows in the footsteps of previous winners from across the constituency and won first prize with a picture depicting a smiling snowman in front of a wintery scene. Wren won tickets to Cinderella at Theatre Royal Winchester for herself and her family.
As well as the main prize, there were also a range of year group winners and commendations and an overall runner-up, Lucy Young of John Keble CofE Primary School, who also won the Year 5 category. Lucy’s fellow pupil, Oliver Instone picked up the Year 3 award.
Alvin Fan from Pilgrims’ School won the Year 6 category, with fellow Pilgrims’ student Atillio Slee, winning the Year 2 category. Sherborne House’s Albert Bowles collected the Year 4 award.
Casper Cruz, of St Peter’s Catholic Primary School won the Year R category.
All year winners received family tickets to Marwell Zoo.
Special commendations were also given to Emily Shepherd (Year 5) from St Peter’s Catholic Primary School and Fred Fisher (Year R) from John Keble CofE Primary School.
All winners, commendations and finalists have been displayed in the atrium of The Arc, Winchester.
The headteacher of Twyford School, Andrew Harvey, who’s student Wren won the competition said; “Twyford is proud to have received its first winner in Steve’s competition.
Wren’s artwork was only one in amongst many high quality entries from Twyford and I know that she was absolutely thrilled to have been chosen as the overall winner, beating out over 400 other children.”
Steve Brine said: "We had a huge amount of entries with just over 400 children from across Winchester and Chandler’s Ford taking part this year. I’m hugely thankful to all their busy teachers for giving the time to allow the children to take part in this year’s competition. I would also like to thank Marwell Zoo and Theatre Royal Winchester for donating the prizes this year. These brilliant organisations have supported this competition for years and I’m so glad they could again this year.
"My congratulations go to Wren, her brilliant design will be sent to the King and the Prime Minister, among many other people and organisations across Westminster, Winchester and Chandler’s Ford. Well done to all the Year Group and Commendation winners as well"
"My thanks also go out to Alex Whitfield of the Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust who helped to judge this year’s competition which will be my last. It’s been such fun and sobering to think my first winner, ten year old Eleanor from Prince’s Mead has now finished university.”
