Rachel Baines, an English Literature student, will fly out to Accra with the charity Thrive Africa as part of a volunteering project, and believes the chance to contribute to the amenities of another country will be a truly rewarding experience.
She will work in Kumasi in the South, and Bolgatanga in the North, to carry out several sustainable projects in the community, covering library building, disaster prevention, orphanage development and welfare.
Rachel told Steve: "I will be funding all costs of the trips myself but because it's organised in conjunction with the charity Thrive Africa, I have to raise at least £995 in sponsorship before I can set off.
"All the money goes directly to local Ghanaian charities and will make a long lasting difference. Thrive Africa is a very worthwhile cause, offering opportunities to promote the advancement of education and relief of poverty."
Steve Brine said: "I know from speaking to Rachel how passionate she is about raising money for this cause and the added challenge to her studies. I am delighted to be able to support her in this project ."
