Local MP, Steve Brine, has taken his constituents issues to the Prime Minister this afternoon, during the latest instalment of PMQs.

Steve has shared the plight of local residents following a outpouring of requests for help from the community with securing their driving licences.

The Winchester and Chandler’s Ford MP told the House; “I have been contacted by a number of constituents who are unable to go about their lives or even get to work, because their drivers’ licences are stuck at the DVLA.”

The MP requested a meeting, via the Prime Minister, with Grant Shapps, Secretary of Statement for Transport, which led to many MPs agreeing, prompting the Steve to say “Would he ask the Transport Secretary to meet with me and any other member of this House, I think we may need a big room, to explain how we can help them out of the hole they’ve put themselves in.”

Mr Johnson, the Prime Minister, responded saying; “I think, like everybody in this House, I’ve read some surprising things about what’s been going on at the DVLA. I do think that we need to make sure that they’re given every possible encouragement and support to expedite the supply of driver licences to the people in this country.”

Hampshire Chronicle column - Farewell

My final column is perhaps more reflective than usual but I hope you will forgive me as I prepare to formally step down as Parliament is formally Dissolved ahead of the General Election on July 4. Fourteen years ago, in May 2010, I was first elected as our MP.
