Chandler's Ford MP, Steve Brine, joined up with a local speedwatch, which started in 2015, team during a session on Hursley Road with a portion of their ten members.
Volunteers use equipment that monitor the speed of passing traffic and record the details of speeding cars, later adding them to a database. Vehicle checks are undertaken by the police and letters are sent to the registered keepers advising them of their speed and reminding them of the community concern.
Community speedwatch is an educational scheme and it is considered as the first tier response to speeding issues. If a problem persists, it can be escalated to tier two, meaning that enforcement can be undertaken by the police neighbourhood policing teams.
Steve Brine MP, who is a big supporter of the scheme, said; "It was a pleasure to visit such a committed and well organised community Speedwatch. Derek and the Chandler's Ford team are well supported by volunteers and colleagues at Hampshire Constabulary which is an important combination in my experience of these things. They are doing sterling work help keep our communities safe."
The group are looking for further volunteers, if you are interested please either email [email protected] or find out more information through the Hampshire Constabulary website.
