Local MPs came together cross-party today for the official opening of the runway extension at Southampton International Airport.
Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP, Steve Brine, joined local MP - Paul Holmes - as well as Caroline Nokes from Romsey and Alan Whitehead from Southampton Test for the event which was overseen by the Aviation Minister.
Baroness Vere cut the ribbon after which a Silver Spitfire took off from the new runway and gave a breathtaking display for the gathered guests.
Steve says; "This runway extension, which only amounts 164m of new runway, has been years in the making but it's been worth it and it's really important for the future of the airport. Some 5000 local people wrote to support the extension during it's consultation process.
"The airport is an important piece of regional infrastructure for us and provides high quality, well paid, local jobs. To see a Spitfire take off from its historical home was a huge moment."
