The Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP asked Mike Penning MP, Minister of State, on the steps he was taking to reduce assessment waiting times. He also told the House that as a constituency MP, he could see for himself the improvements the government has made to the WRC, which was established in 2007-08, since it came to office.
He also asked for an assurance that "no-one will be worse off" as a result of the necessary push on the quality of these assessments and the slowdown that may cause for some of his constituents.
In reply, Mr Penning confirmed that no one would be worse off, and government was pushing the quality of assessments as it is important it is right the first time and doesn't have to go back to appeal.
In addition, he said that if someone had received an overpayment because they were originally assessed at a different rate, that payment would not be retrospectively taken back.
