Steve Brine met up with Network Rail at Waterloo on Thursday 20th July as he went to see the team's progress on extending the platforms at the station.

Passenger numbers on the Wessex Route have more than doubled in the past two decades, and they are investing over £2 billion between 2014-2019 to operate, maintain, renew and enhance the railway.

In order to meet forecast growth, from the existing situation where over 99m passenger journeys per year go through Waterloo, a number of platforms are being extended, so they can carry larger trains.

This summer, between 5th-28th August, fewer SWT services will run into London while the vast amount of the work will take place.

Steve Brine said: "I am very aware that this is a massive disruption, and a pain. August is the best time to carry out this work, and for years people have been saying that this opportunity needs to be taken - now it is."
