In for Christmas! Steve Brine sees new Winchester eco-homes unveiled in Weeke area of city.
They might look nothing out of the ordinary from the outside, but six new homes in Weeke are at the forefront of green living.Winchester City Council officially unveiled the half-dozen ecohomes' today (December 17),at Gardeners Close, so called because they have been granted Ecohomes Excellence status by the Building Research Establishment, an organisation that tests sustainability in building.
Commenting on the ‘eco housing’ development, which is just off Great Field Road in Weeke, Prospective Winchester MP Steve Brine said;
“Winchester desperately needs new homes and this is a very attractive new development of family homes that works well with the local area. It was great to see the families settled in for Christmas. All new homes should be designed with their environmental impact in mind, and while we are long way from that in this country, this is an excellent example and Winchester City Council alongside Atlantic Housing should be congratulated.”
Cllr Tony Coates, city council portfolio holder for housing and communities, said: "These homes have been built with a very high energy efficiency rating and there's a number of other features which meet the Government's sustainable homes agenda.
"I do hope that the new residents here will be very happy and have a long and enjoyable time in these properties in Winchester."
