Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP Steve Brine has raised the plight of people suffering from Parkinson's disease in the House of Commons.

Speaking at Health Questions (on 25 January 2011) he asked the Secretary of State about future commissioning arrangements for neurological services including Parkinson’s and Motor Neurone Disease.

Steve told MPs; “It is imperative that new GP consortia look at this because many GPs are not familiar with these complex neurological conditions and commissioning for them are inevitably going to be tricky.  We must ensure from that start that the right processes are in place and that GPs are getting expert support and advice, including from patients and voluntary sector groups.

“We have a very active Parkinson’s support group in Winchester and I will be working with them to ensure they are closely involved with the local NHS as the new NHS structure is formed in Hampshire.”
