Last Saturday saw the end of fresher's week 2012 at the University of Winchester and it was marked with the traditional fresher's fayre hosted by the Winchester Students' Union.
The only mainstream political society on campus is run by the Conservative Students and they were joined by Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP Steve Brine at the event, held on Saturday 22nd September on the King Alfred Campus off Sparkford Road.
Ross England who runs the Winchester Conservative Student Society said he was pleased with the turnout and potential new recruits: "It was great to meet some of the recently arrived students and we now have some keen new members who want to get involved during their time studying here. The Conservative society had a really young team again this year at fresher's fayre which is important for the party's future locally."
Steve Brine added: "This is the sixth fresher's fayre I have attended in Winchester and I hope I will always be able to go along. I really enjoy chatting with the fresher's this year and meeting students from all over the world as much domestic students from the UK. It's true to say some could not care less about politics while some have pretty clear views what they do (and do not) like but they all care a great deal about some of the key issues currently facing our country and it was nice to be able to answer some of their questions, or at least try!"
The Conservative society entered students into a prize draw at this year's fresher's fayre to win the chance to visit Prime Minister's Question Time in Parliament and have lunch with Steve Brine MP in the House of Commons. Any new student (you must be a fresher in the 2012 intake) who did not attend fresher's fayre or meet the Conservative team, and wish to enter, can do so online before the 31st October via www.stevebrine.com/students.
