Steve Brine officially opened a new building at Sherborne House school on Friday 6th September, a few months after he cut the first piece of turf.
Aided by the school's four senior prefects, Steve performed the opening ceremony by cutting a ribbon tied across the £1.2m facility, comprising four classrooms and an additional multi-purpose hall, having given an address to the assembled children, parents and guests from Eastleigh Borough Council, who all gathered to watch the ceremony.
Speaking on his way to his next appointment, Steve said: "It's always really hard to visualise a new build such as this and it was certainly so when I cut the first turf on a snowy day last November.
"This has turned into a stunning new building which, although brand new, looks as if it was always part of the school. Huge congratulations are owed to all involved in making this happen."
Head Teacher, Mrs Heather Hopson-Hill, commented: "2013 has been a landmark year for the Sherbourne House, being its 80th anniversary and the 100th birthday of the founder's daughter, Miss Dorothy Wise. The new development marks the next chapter in the school's history, and is a wonderful facility which will enable us to further develop the very best opportunities for our children."
