Thousands of new students are arriving in Winchester this week and the traditional freshers fayre event was held at the University of Winchester today, Saturday 23 September.
The Winchester Conservative Student Society was the first political society at the University and is very active, organising social events and supporting political activity across the Winchester & Chandler's Ford constituency.
The Society once again had a lively presence at Freshers Fayre where they met new students wanting to sign up as members. They were joined by local MP Steve Brine (and his son William) who spent time chatting with new students about the work of the society and politics in general.
Steve says; "This was actually my tenth freshers fayre in Winchester and it's something I always look forward to. Of course it's nice to meet students who are new to our city but it's also great to support the Conservative Society which is extremely active on campus. Ours is a society run by students and I come along as their guest.
"I know our President, George, and his team met some lots of new members who are really keen to get involved and they have a great first term of events planned, including a joint event with the Labour Students' Society who are the other big political group at Winchester University. There's no question in the time I've been the MP we've seen the return of Labour to student politics in Winchester and I think that can only be healthy."
