Steve Brine has welcomed confirmation that the Government is to scrap the £65 fee which EU citizens were going to pay to apply for the right to continue to live in the UK after Brexit.
Theresa May confirmed that EU citizens living here will be able to stay until 2020, and when they apply to stay afterwards, the standard fee to do this will be waived.
In the meantime, a ‘test phase’ of the EU Settlement Scheme has been launched, and will be fully open by 30th March. Applications currently cost £65 for adults and £32.50 for under-16s, but the PM has axed the fee for when the scheme is rolled out in full, and in the meantime, anyone who pays or has already paid it will have it reimbursed.
Steve Brine said: “This is a very welcome move that will go down well with my constituents. It shows our country at its most decent, and put simply, is the right thing to do.”
