A few years ago the MoD signalled its intention to dispose of the Sir John Moore Barracks during the course of this decade.
The DIO (Defence Infrastructure Organisation) have drawn up detailed plans which they are now discussing with residents.
Steve Brine MP says; "In short, it’s a mixed use plan comprising around 1000 houses, a commercial element, park and ride, sports pitches and a supported living facility. My message has consistently been – do not over-develop this site.
"I will continue to be closely briefed by the DIO as plans develop over the years ahead and will go on making my case that instead of just dumping more houses on this site, we should be imaginative and seek to create new high quality employment to support the local and regional economy."
A glossy brochure will be going through doors in the locality but much more detail is on the website noted below.
When news of the disposal first emerged, Steve Brine spoke of his hope to bring a new knowledge park to the site.
