Winchester MP Steve Brine was given a tour recently of the new sport and leisure centre as the development reached its first major milestone.
Mr Brine was kindly shown around the Bar End site by Winchester City Council Leader, Cllr Lucille Thompson, and Cllr Malcolm Prince, Cabinet Member for sport, leisure and communities.
The 50-metre swimming pool has begun to take shape, with the tank excavation now complete, while builders Willmott Dixon are also laying pipework, concrete works and the foundations of the building.
As well as the 50m pool, the new centre will include a training pool, multi-use sports hall, fitness suite, squash courts and hydrotherapy suite.
Steve Brine MP said: “It was good to finally get on-site and kind of the new leader of WCC to join me. It’s a huge undertaking but you can really see it starting to take shape and get a feel for where the pools and sports hall will be as well as way users will access the site.
“It was also useful to get confirmation, as expected, that the masterplan for the new leisure centre remains unchanged since the May election and councillors can now put all that argument behind them and just get on with it. I know my constituents expect nothing less and are excited to see their new sport and leisure park open in 2021.”
