Three Winchester business-women have joined forces to establish a new organisation geared at encouraging local women leaders to share ideas while also raising funds for Hampshire-based charities.
Co-founders Liz Trevor, Fiona Whitehouse and Michelle Beck believe that their unique blend of skills and experience make for an exciting partnership. Aptly named 3Women, the trio hosted their first fundraising event last Thursday evening at the Wykeham Arms Winchester, raising over £1,122 for charity in the space of just a few hours.
Entitled "The ShoeBox Event", attendees were encouraged to donate a pair of shoes they no longer needed while also slipping into their favourite pair of heels for the evening.
"Our aim is to encourage local women leaders from all sectors to network together in a relaxed environment. Our events will encourage dialogue and engagement, but will always have a fun twist" says Liz Trevor.
AgeUK Winchester were on hand to receive over thirty pairs of donated shoes, with Winchester Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling Service (RASAC) benefitting from ticket and raffle sales.
"From Wellingtons and men's shoes, right through to snakeskin stiletto's, our ladies have done an amazing job of raiding their wardrobes for a great cause" said co-founder Fiona Whitehouse.
Michelle Beck adds: "We have been thrilled with the response to our first event. It's wonderful to see women from private, public and not-for-profit organisations joining together to network and exchange ideas."
Local MP for Winchester and Chandlers Ford, Steve Brine was on hand to officially launch the 3Women initiative, saying; "This year is going to be really tough, but confidence is so important as is having experienced businesspeople to turn to and seek advice from. This new organisation is built around helping women that set up and succeed in small business locally and that can only be positive. Its charity aspect makes it all the more appealing."
3Women plan to host several more events during 2013, with a Summer event already in the planning stages.
