The House of Commons second chamber saw an important debate on Autism and ADHD Assessments following a successful e-petition campaign.
Among the packed Westminster Hall was Winchester and Chandler's Ford MP, Steve Brine, who intervening on Elliot Colburn MP's speech said; "He will know that the Health and Social Care Select Committee, which I chair, is just undertaking a major inquiry into the prevention of ill health at the moment, and given some shocking statistics about the harm that adults with ADHD can come to, attempting suicide an example.
Would he agree that actually answering the petition positively is a key prevention issue in health care?"
Mr Colburn, the Member of Parliament for Carshalton and Wallington, added; "I'm grateful to the Chair of the Select Committee for that intervention, and he's absolutely right and I commend the work the Health and Social Care Committee have done in this area already and I look forward to reading the report that the Committee comes out with.
I absolutely agree and it's something I'm going to come onto later in my speech, is the wider effects that these waiting times can have on parents and adults waiting for these assessments, so I'm grateful to him for making us aware of that."
