Steve Brine has spoken of his sadness after British Gas revealed they plan to make over 500 employees redundant at their Southampton call centre.
The firm, which has now launched a three-month consultation on the moves, has said that while 50 posts will move to nearby Chandler's Ford, it needed to reduce costs and remain competitive.
Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP Steve Brine said: "It was with real sadness that I heard this news, and I know that many families not only in Winchester & Chandler's Ford but across Hampshire will be upset, frustrated and very worried right now.
"There is some consolation in a small number of posts transferring to Chandler's Ford, but that will be of little comfort to those who are now looking for work."
