Saturday 12th July saw Steve Brine's latest Alresford street surgery, as ever held on the corner of Broad/West Street.

Now in its eighth year, Steve was joined this time by Cllr Ernie Jeffs – as well as local police and Cllr Lisa Griffiths - after his recent Mayoral year took him much further afield.

Steve said: "The July heatwave certainly didn't let up that day but the Saturday morning shoppers kept on coming and were keen to talk as always.

"A wide range of subjects were raised with us, including of course, the continuing discussion around New Alresford's Local Plan. The debate continues to move on, but I obviously remain engaged on the subject, recently meeting NATC councillors, a group of Nursery Road residents and just making myself accessible via events such as my Alresford street surgery.

"One other local subject raised was of course that of large lorries through Broad Street. I continue to liaise with local people and organisations on the subject, including the Alresford Society who are now in possession of some traffic movement data courtesy of Hampshire County Council, and having recently met with the watercress industry down on Bighton Lane feel confident change is coming.

"Discussions are sensitive, and are staying firmly in commercial confidence as we attempt to keep the party politics which has so harmed the moderate campaign at bay, but watch this space!"
