Clifton Terrace

Residents in a part of Winchester City centre are asking for a new pedestrian crossing to navigate a busy stretch of the Romsey Road.

People living in the Fulflood and Orams Arbour area say they have to regularly run the gauntlet in crossing the road, at its junction with Clifton Terrace, to join up with St James Terrace.  This week (10-17 November) is National Road Safety Week.

Steve Brine, Prospective Conservative MP for Winchester begun the campaign following a survey of the area this Summer and is backing residents’ in their campaign.

He says; “Susie and I lived for many years in Fulflood so we were very aware of the danger posed by this crossing point on the Romsey Road.  There are so many young families, school children and students living in the area who regularly need to cross here, as pedestrians or cyclists, and its’ clear from the response we’ve had from residents that a number of them are fearful this is an accident waiting to happen.

"We appreciate this is a busy and complicated junction but all we are asking is for Hampshire County Council to look at the area with an open mind, engage with us and come forward with some possible solutions to make things safer.”
