Local Sports Club President Paul Murray reminded those present, while he cut the special ribbon, that the impetus for the gym equipment came from the parish's Great War Day in August 2014, and using the motto "They Gave Us a Sporting Chance", the Great War Day had commemorated those who perished in the service of their country.
After the short ceremony, those present had the chance to flex their muscles on the apparatus (a cross trainer, ski machine, chest press/seated rower and assisted pull up) before enjoying coffee and pastries in the pavilion.
Steve Brine said: "I know from speaking to local councillors that they are very grateful to Winchester City Council, whose Open Space Fund met the capital cost of the equipment, to VitaPlay for the installation, and to the Sports Club for agreeing to take on the maintenance costs.
"I also know they are incredibly grateful to Parish Councillor Myra Wilkinson who selected the equipment, drove the project and provided the refreshments. I was delighted to be here this morning and I'm sure this will be a well-used community facility."
