Winchester MP Steve Brine has congratulated organisers of a cake sale held last Saturday after they raised over £5000 for Help for Heroes!
The fourth annual Help for Heroes Colossal Cake Sale was held at the Brooks Centre and St Maurice’s Covert and sold over one thousand cakes- including some fairy cakes baked by Steve’s daughter Emily, which were quickly snapped up!
Organiser Belinda Mitchell said: “The target we set ourselves was £5,000 and judging by the business that’s been going on we should meet that. The Help For Heroes cake sale started in Winchester four years ago and now there is probably 100 going on around the country.”
Many Winchester companies joined in the donations, including Maison Blanc and Lainston House Hotel. Hendy Ford and Premier Foods also joined in helping with transport and setting up the stalls.
Steve added: “I was delighted to hear how much Belinda and her team raised for this excellent cause. I saw for myself how popular ‘Hero’ was and just how quickly the cakes were changing hands. I know that plans are already in place for next year’s event in March, and I know that young Emily for one will be getting out the baking tray and doing her bit.”
