Steve Brine and his team spent Easter Saturday morning chatting to shoppers in Winchester ahead of the General Election, likely to be called on Tuesday.

The Prospective MP, who lives in Winchester with his young family, said the response from local people was “tremendously encouraging” and expressed his excitement at the start of the official General Election campaign.

Steve said; “I have been the Conservative candidate here since November 2006, the longest serving of any of the candidates, and it has been the longest job interview I’ve ever faced!  In that time we have spent many Saturday morning’s in Winchester High Street and it’s always worth every second but this weekend was better than ever.  We had so many people wanting to stop and chat and just wish me good luck for the coming election.  At one point we even had a queue!

“I think voters here, many who have not voted Conservative since 1992, recognise the hard work we have put in over three and-a-half years and know that this Government has got to go.  They seem clearer than ever that the way to be sure that happens is to vote Conservative.

He added; “It’s been a really hard slog as candidate at times for me; I have juggled a new baby (Emily was born in November 2007) and all the usual pressures of family life but also two jobs for much of that time because we still had to pay the bills.  It would have been very convenient to be a full-time candidate sometimes, as I think my main two opponents were able to do, but I think it makes you a more rounded parliamentary candidate to come fresh to Parliament from the workplace.  The experiences I have had in recent years, especially in the golf business, taught me a great deal about business and the challenges thousands of the people I seek to represent face every day. I hope my political and my business background will stand me in good stead if I am elected this May.”
