Winchester's MP, Steve Brine, with his children Emily and William visited Emmaus Hampshire's Bar End Community on Saturday 26th April to join Companions, Staff, Volunteers, Trustees and Saturday Shoppers celebrating the 5th Anniversary of its opening.

Completed in 2008 this was the 19th Emmaus Community to open in the UK but the first to be purpose built. Many Companions have lived and worked at Emmaus Hampshire and its satellite shop in Eastleigh since then.

Both shops offered good discounts on the day. One young couple furnished the sitting room in their new home from the Eastleigh shop with table, chairs, sofa and sideboard. They were thrilled, and the Bar End shop was abuzz all day too.

Steve Brine was welcomed by Emmaus Hampshire's Chairman Keith Falconer who showed him round, while in the evening invited guests enjoyed a Hog Roast while listening to a Beatles' Tribute Band.

Speaking afterwards, Steve said: "I was delighted to bring my family along today, and it was an honour to be able to be a part of this very special 5th anniversary. Emmaus is a fantastic organisation, and I am so pleased to be able to support them."

Emmaus is a worldwide movement, and by December 2013 there were 24 Communities open in the UK with 8 Affiliated Groups planning to increase this number.
