Everest in the Alps is a physically and mentally tough ski-touring challenge in which a team of 12 athletes will climb the height of Mount Everest (8,848m) but in the Swiss Alps. The approximate daily calorie burn per athlete will approach 10,000 – the equivalent of running three marathons back to back. The challenge will take four days and incorporate roughly 28 hours of uphill ski-touring with only two hours of downhill skiing.
Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40, and the Everest in the Alps challenge is a unique way of raising both awareness of this fact, and funds for research into a cure.
As part of the fundraising, Steve sent the team his favourite soup recipe, for their Everest in the Alps cookbook, which will be sold at the Twyford Christmas Fair.
After meeting the team, he said: "I was delighted to meet this very energetic group of mums this morning who are embarking on the trip of all trips to raise money for a brilliant charity. Best of luck!"
