The weekend marked the 50th Anniversary of the dedication of the Church, and the milestone inspired a group from across the Parish, in Chandler’s Ford, to create the Flower Festival.
A number of events took place over the weekend, including a Poetry and Music eveving, a combined Parish Eucharist and even a Pimms reception and Hog Roast.
Steve said: “Many congratulations to all at St Martin in the Wood for 50 years. My grandparents always taught me you are closer to God in the garden than anywhere else on this earth and they were dead right in my view. I think it is a lovely idea to celebrate this anniversary with such an amazing display of flowers.”
David Purser, churchwarden, added: “For many of us, these Golden Jubilee celebrations will rekindle memories and will be a time for much reminiscence! However, we are also looking positively forward, reaching out to meet the needs of the whole community in the 21st century.”
