The debate, which will take place on Thursday 17th October, will focus on the importance of services for deaf children and young people and will acknowledge the wide attainment gap, recognising that communications support for deaf children and their parents is vital for social development and educational progress.
Steve, who raised the issue back in May, said: "The Government has stated there is an expectation that funding for vulnerable learners is to be protected, but there is concern about recent evidence uncovered by the National Deaf Children's Society which shows that in 2013-14 over a third of local authorities plan to cut education services for deaf children."
Back in May, nearly 50,000 people signed the 'Stolen Futures' petition, calling on the Department for Education to intervene at a national level and ensure local authorities protect funding for deaf children.
Steve continued: "I am urging the Government to take steps to hold local authorities to account and to support parents in doing so. This can be done by asking Ofsted to inspect these vital services, improving access to communication support including sign language, and strengthening the Children and Families Bill currently before Parliament."
