Glimpse of the future on St John's Croft decision

Steve Brine has welcomed today's decision by WCC's Planning Committee to approve a new development in the city centre.

The Winchester & Chandler’s Ford MP said: "This is a really good news story. The proposal to put some new homes on this site has gone from being hugely controversial and bitterly divisive to an absolute model of community-led planning.

"It proves we are not anti-development in Winchester but we do demand control over where and how many homes are built. I am really pleased the new Government has signalled the end to development by dictat and confrontation and will be highlighting St John's Croft to Ministers as a real glimpse into the future of community involvement when it comes to these decisions."

Steve has been working with residents in the area since 2007 when the first application was refused. He brought the developer and the residents' action group together in early 2010 after the change of Government and wrote a strongly worded letter to the city planners ahead of today's meeting.
