Xmas Card Winner

Grace Hall, from South Wonston Primary School, has won Steve Brine's eighth annual Christmas Card competition.

The Year 3 pupil follows in the footsteps of previous winners from across the constituency and won first prize with a water colour "Merry Christmas" design.  Grace now wins a family ticket for this year's Beauty and the Beast pantomime courtesy of Theatre Royal Winchester.

As well as the main prize, there were also a range of year group winners and commendations.

Poppy Burrows from St Faiths CofE Primary School won the Year 6 category, while Teddy Oates, also from St Faiths, won Year 5. Lottie Al-Mukhtar from St Bede CofE Primary School won the Year 4 category and Edward Hadley from The Westgate School won the Year 2 award.

Noah Proder-Smith from Prince's Mead won the Year 1 category, and Aryann Ullah from Sherborne House School won the Reception Year prize.

Special commendations were also given to Isaac Treasure from Sherborne House School (Year 5), Flossy Barrett (Year 3) of Itchen Abbas Primary School, as well as both Erin Mack (Year 5) and Hugo Tait (Year 2), from South Wonston Primary School.

The Year Group winners and Commendations all receive family tickets to Marwell Wildlife, and all the paintings are now on display in the Children's Library at the Winchester Discovery Centre until the New Year.

Steve Brine said: "This was another strong year for entries to the competition and I am hugely grateful to all busy teachers for making time to allow the children to take part and, of course, the children for putting their hearts into this. I would particularly like to thank Michelle Buhl-Nielsen for being the guest judge this year.

“Many thanks also to our sponsors, Theatre Royal Winchester, Marwell Wildlife and Winchester Discovery Centre  who once more have been so kind and accommodating with their time and resources. My congratulations go to Grace, whose design will be sent to the Queen and the Prime Minister among others, and all the Year Group and Commendation winners."

Hampshire Chronicle column - Farewell

Thursday, 30 May, 2024
My final column is perhaps more reflective than usual but I hope you will forgive me as I prepare to formally step down as Parliament is formally Dissolved ahead of the General Election on July 4. Fourteen years ago, in May 2010, I was first elected as our MP.
