A number of Winchester based organisations have been recognised as finalists in the annual Hantsweb Awards run by Hampshire County Council.

The Hantsweb Awards is a unique and prestigious event that promotes and provides recognition of excellence and innovation in website design, accessibility and web services. The Awards are open to any website or web service that is based in, or serves, the residents of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Since 2002 Hampshire County Council has organised the Awards to improve the standard of online services, encourage good practice, reward innovation and raise awareness of the opportunities the web presents for communities. Over the years they have highlighted the best in online services to local communities as well as benefiting the interests of all those who have participated.

Nominations for the awards are assessed by judges with expertise and experience in their chosen field. Overall they look for good practice, accessibility, ease of use, relevance, and of course, great design.

The deadline for voting is Sunday 21 February 2010 and the winner will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on 23 February.

Several Winchester based organisation are nominated this year ahead of the final says Prospective Winchester MP Steve Brine; “Congratulations to all of them.

There is to say the least a lot of competition out there on the web so it is harder than ever to create a site that stands out from the crowd.  I think it is crucial that local businesses get their share of the online marketplace and I hope this competition from Hampshire County Council helps promote the good work they are doing.”
