Over 200 people attended St Bartholomew's Church on Thursday 20th October as local servicemen who gave their lives in World War One were commemorated.

The event heard a history of the Great War from General Sir Antony Walker, who lives in the heart of the area, alongside a number of songs from the time performed by the Hyde900 Choir.

The evening concluded with a reading of the roll-call of the 1916 casualties, with the present-day occupiers of the soldiers' former homes adding special flags to the Hyde Soldiers commemorative map.

Steve Brine, who was among the attendees, said: "This was such a special event, and seeing current residents placing their flags to the map really brought home just how the Great War affected this very close little community.

"Once again, Hyde900 organised a fantastic event, which completely hit the right tone."
