The Hilt is the brand new community centre at Hiltingbury Recreation Ground, opened by the Mayor of Eastleigh in May 2009.
The building is an excellent new community facility run by the Hiltingbury Community Association and upstairs houses The Loft youth club.
On Thursday (September 10 2009) it opened its doors for an open night to show parents, friends and local representatives what they have to offer the area’s young people.
Prospective Conservative MP for the new Winchester & Chandler’s Ford constituency, Steve Brine, popped in with local Conservative campaigner Judith Grajewski and her 14 year-old daughter, Eleanor.
They met the youth workers, employed by Solent Youth Action and chatted with young people enjoying the facility.
Steve said; “The Hilt is a fabulous new resource for the community and The Loft is the icing on the cake. The young people running it have an infectious enthusiasm and the young people are loving it. They have Guitar Hero to enjoy as well as Pool, online gaming and of-course, the Wii. I had a brilliant time on Wii golf and proved that this facility is for big kids as much as smaller ones! The community in Hiltingbury is really lucky to have this facility on its doorstep."
