Steve Brine MP met with officials from Hampshire County Council who are leading a funding bid for a 'Mini-Holland' scheme for Winchester. David Jowsey and Geoff Hobbs, both of HCC, are working with councillors and officers from across their own council and Winchester City Council.
The scheme seeks to create a real transformation in the safety, comfort and attractiveness of active travel infrastructure, with the aim to increase the number of people choosing to walk, wheel and cycle for their journeys within the city and support the local policy objectives of achieving a reduction in dependence on the private car.
HCC and WCC will be submitting their bid for £32million of funding to Active Travel England at the start of next year.
