Local MP Steve Brine called for a strengthening of the UK's economic bonds with the United States in Prime Minister's Questions on Wednesday 7th November.

As the House congratulated President Obama on his re-election, the Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP echoed the comments of the Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg- standing in for David Cameron who was in the Middle East - and said that it was always good to see an incumbent leader re-elected in challenging times to cheers from the Conservative benches.

He went on to call for a strengthening of our economic and trade ties with the US and the Middle East, while the UK continues to seek to boost the recovery.

Speaking afterwards, Steve said: "This is a very important issue as we continue to boost our recovery, and following President Obama's victory in the early hours of Wednesday morning a timely occasion to push the point. I was pleased to hear that the government seeks to agree a new EU-US free trade agreement, which could of course result in starting an economic recovery across the Channel.

"It was also a pleasure to engage with the Deputy Prime Minister in the Commons who held the fort well in the PM's absence I thought."
