The Member of Parliament for Winchester and Chandler's Ford has paid a farewell visit to Winchester Beacon's Michelle Price.
Michelle, who stepped down as CEO of the Winchester based homeless charity this month, has been involved with the Winchester Beacon since 2004.
Replacing Michelle as CEO is Mark Wakeling who has over twenty-five years’ experience of leadership roles within the charity sector. He co-founded Beyond the Streets – a Southampton-based charity working to give women opportunities outside of the sex industry. Mark has also set up a social enterprise in partnership with organisations in the global south to support women impacted by human trafficking.
“I’m excited to be joining the team at The Winchester Beacon and I look forward to helping to ensure that many more people have the opportunity to rebuild their lives” commented Mark. “To see change, we need safe spaces and a community to work together. It is a privilege to join an excellent team and network of supporters working locally to end homelessness.”
Tracy Jones, Chair of the Board of Directors, commented on the appointment: “We are looking forward to welcoming Mark to The Winchester Beacon. Our charity has evolved hugely since the start of the pandemic and we are excited to enter the next phase with Mark at the helm. His experience of the charity sector will be invaluable as we continue to develop to meet the changing needs of the people we support.”
Following his brief visit, Steve said : "Really lovely to say thank you and farewell today to Michelle after so many years running The Winchester Beacon and to meet Mark who is our new CEO. Look forward to working with you."
